Turbinate Surgery - Rene Clinic

Turbinate Surgery

The structures called turbinate are the organs that take an active role in the regulation of respiratory function by warming and humidifying the inhaled air from the nose. The most common clinical condition is turbinate hypertrophy (i.e. growth), which almost always occurs in the inferior turbinate. Although this inferior turbinate hypertrophy originates often from soft tissue, the bone hypertrophy or hypertrophy of both structures may also occur.  Turbinate disorders often cause nasal congestion in the patient. During the rhinoplasty, the enlarged turbinates are reduced. However, if there are underlying allergic causes of turbinate hypertrophy, post-operative hypertrophy may be seen.
