Prevention Treatment

Regardless of whether the incisions caused by surgical procedures or accidents in our bodies are healed spontaneously or sutured during the recovery stage, the scars will always be persistent. The scar is the reaction of healing given by the skin upon injury. If these incisions resolve spontaneously, the scars will be much more visible. However, if the incision is sutured appropriately in the early term and regular wound care is maintained, the scars will be minimized and scarcely seen.

The scars of plastic surgeries are also persistent. However, since the incisions are controlled, the incision is sutured properly, and the scars are designed for the hidden areas; they will not be seen.

The scars vary depending on the genetics, region, age, race, skin type, and health status of the individual. The scars in the facial area heal well, whereas the scars in certain areas, particularly such as anterior chest wall, heal poorly. Additionally, incisions that are parallel to the body lines heal well, whereas the vertical ones remain visible. In some people scars may heal to an extent that they cannot be seen, whereas they may be red and visible in the others.

The main purpose of scar treatment is to prevent scars before they get worse. Therefore, postoperative wound care, use of scar creams recommended by the doctor, and use of sun creams and moisturizers are very important.

Preventive Measures 
Local wound site care with daily dressing after incision; The risk of infection is reduced. The appropriate moisture setting and a germ-free area are ensured until the the wound site is water resistant.

Removal of the sutures in time; If you have stitches to be removed, it is important that they are removed in a timely manner as recommended by your doctor. Sutures are foreign bodies and may result in adverse reactions in your skin.

Local moisturizing and use of sun cream; Sun beams result in increased pigmentation and cause pigmentation to be persistent. Avoiding sun or solarium and using sun protection creams are very important.

Scar creams; The gels recommended by your doctor may be used for both treatment and prevention.

Silicone bands; these are systems that create a layer on the wound, electrically inhibiting the overgrowth of cells.

Treatment Options
Surgical treatment: If you have a poorly healed scar, this procedure is used to remove and suture again the respective area. However, as healing is activated again, the chance of a poorly healed scar is high. Therefore, preventive measures should be placed emphasis on at this stage. The patient must be followed closely in this regard. It is possible to ensure that the scars heal well by replacing the incision sites according to the body lines using certain plastic surgeries (Z-plasty, W-plasty) during the surgery.

Compression therapy; special compression systems and silicone layers may also be used for therapeutic purposes.

Local Steroid (cortisone) administration; Administering steroid at an appropriate concentration directly into the knee may help to minimize and fade the scars and reduce itching problems, etc. The administration may require more than one session, 3 weeks apart. No systemic effect occurs, since this is a localized administration at low doses.

Laser; fractional CO2 laser is used for the scars. Swollen and dark colored scars are declined to the skin level using laser shorts, and their color is faded. It is usually recommended to be performed in winter months. The rate of response of scars varies individually. It is administered without causing pain under office settings. It requires more than one session. Although the procedure varies as per the scar, it takes 10 minutes. One may return his/her daily life easily. Moisturizers and sun protection creams are recommended for care. The procedure is always combined with preventive measures.
