Botulinum Toxin Application

Botulinum toxin is Clostridium Botulinum A exotoxin, which is a bacterium. This toxin prevents the substances needed for contraction of the muscles from being released from the nerve endings by the nerve. Thus, it reduces the contraction of the muscles in the applied area and helps to remove wrinkles caused by facial expressions. With aging, the strength of facial mimic muscles increases and this muscle contractions cause skin wrinkling in both upper and lower face.

The toxin is injected intramuscularly, and nerve-to-muscle communication is reduced only in that area. The starting age of application for protection is often around 30. But as permanent wrinkles may start structurally at an earlier age, the application can also be done at earlier ages. The drug is very safe and can be applied safely until the end of your life. Its effect is reversible and it is completely eliminated from the body. 

The main purpose is to obtain a natural image at the end of the procedure. There is never a dull facial expression. A rested and fresh look is obtained. Your angry, upset image is replaced by a rested and happy look. 

Areas of Use

• For removing horizontal lines on the forehead, vertical lines between two eyebrows, horizontal lines in the corner of the eyes (crow's feet), over the nose lines (bunny line), vertical lines above the lips (smoker line)
• For lifting the corner of the mouth
• For reducing the visibility of the gums when smiling (gummy smile) 
• For reducing the necklines
• For eyebrow lifting
• For the elimination of asymmetries in facial paralysis
• For the treatment of excessive sweating of the hands, feet, and armpits (axilla) (hyperhidrosis)
• It is used to relieve migraine pain.
   

Before the Procedure

The areas to be filled of the person are determined and drawing can be made. A detailed medical history is obtained, the patient is examined, the expectations of the patient are learnt, the patient is informed about surgery, photographs are taken before the procedure. Pregnancy and breastfeeding must be asked. 

Procedure

No anesthesia is required. It is applied to the required areas depending on the patient’s need using the microinjection method. If sweating treatment is going to be done, local anesthesia can be applied as the hand and foot may be painful. Application time for wrinkles may take 5 minutes, and sweating treatment application may last for 10-15 minutes. The administration into the correct muscle is vital. 

After the Procedure

After the application, it is recommended not to wash the face, wear make-up, have a massage or do movements such as bending and lying  for 1-2 hours. The person can return to his/her daily life immediately. Its effect starts to become apparent in about 2 days with the peak effect after 7-10 days. Since the effect is not fully seen during the first application, control is needed after approximately 7-10 days. When there is an insufficient effect, the additional dosage is administered and/or asymmetries are corrected. This process is completely reversible.
